Service to our community & Benevolence

Bean's Cafe - Join us in serving meals at Bean's each month on the 2nd Friday of each month.  Contact the church office if you plan to attend.

Clare House meals are provided by our congregation once a month. A sign-up sheet is posted in the Fellowship Hall by the coffee pot. Also, Clare House always has a list of items which are needed. If you would like to donate something to the homeless women and children whom it serves, call 563-4545 (Clare House) or 345-3858 (Church Office) for the current "wish list."

Lutheran Social Services is in need of donated food items. Specifically, pasta, beans, cereal, soup, canned fruit juice, rice, and canned meat products. Your food donations can be dropped off at the food site, 1801 W. 48th (behind Spenard Builder's Supply) Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday afternoons from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Big Brother/Big Sister clothing donations are collected - look for the big blue box or the collection box at the Huffman Carrs.

“Put Your Faith Into Action Through Your Purchases

This is the challenge put forth by Brenda Meier of Lutheran World Relief. (LWR) To do so, she suggests purchasing items (ideal for Christmas presents) from the SERRV International catalog.  As she states: “Two thirds of the world’s population survives on less than $2 a day, which is not enough to meet daily needs.  The LWR Handcraft Projects puts you in partnership with artisans in developing regions of the world that face huge economic challenges.  By purchasing the fairly traded handmade items featured in the catalog, you supply vital income to the artisans. . .”  You also help LWR and Christ Our Savior, because SERRV donates 10% of your purchase price back to both LWR and Christ Our Savior.  Any money Christ Our Savior receives goes into our Hunger Fund, which is designated to be used to help combat hunger.  There are many items available, both in the catalog and on the internet: www.serrv.org.  Catalogs are on the table in the back of the church.  To keep costs down, our parish receives only ten copies.  If you take one, please sign it out and return it when you are done.  If you order, please list our Parish Code: L607, so we will receive our percentage.  I ordered items two years ago, and they were all of really nice quality.  But order soon, they sell out of many items.  If you have any questions, please contact me, Jeannie Sato.  Thank you very much for considering “putting your faith into action through your purchases.”

Our Sunday School  classes have been raising money to buy animals for families around the world through the Heifer International program.  Heifer animals (and training in their care) offer hungry families around the world a way to feed themselves and become self-reliant. Children receive nutritious milk or eggs; families earn income for school, health care and better housing; communities go beyond meeting immediate needs to fulfilling dreams. Farmers learn sustainable, environmentally sound agricultural techniques.
